Will Must Send Regrets: 101 Rejected Crossword Puzzles and the Stories Behind Them
by Damon Gulczynski

Renowned crossword puzzle constructor Damon Gulczynski presents 101 puzzles for your solving pleasure. Each puzzle was rejected for publication by venerable New York Times editor Will Shortz. Complete with constructor notes and loosely tangential anecdotes, the puzzles tell a humorous, two-decade tale of repeated but endearing failure. (Book description from Amazon)

I heard about this book through a Games magazine fan FaceBook group, and it immediately fell into my cart. I’m looking forward to the puzzles, but I’m really interested in the behind-the-scenes stories from the constructor.

  1. Nice to see you at Mailbox Monday.
Oh what an interesting collection. I’d like to know why they were rejected too. I haven’t done crosswords for quite sometime. I wish I had more time. Enjoy!!

    1. Each puzzle is paired with a one-page essay about the creation of the puzzle, why it was rejected, and other notes. It’s been entertaining so far!
